A: That depends, if your A/C has been experiencing issues then maybe. Otherwise it shouldn't need to be topped off every year.
Q: What's a BTU?
A: BTU's are the units we use to describe heating and cooling load calculations.
Q: How many BTU's does it take to cool my home?
A: Every home is different so, many calculations and careful thought must go into designing your home cooling system, but a general rule for load calculations is for every 500ft of living space you would need 12,000 BTU's of cooling capacity which equals 1 Ton.
Q: Is my unit still under warranty?
A: Like many other questions there are variable answers to this, AGE is the first factor. New units typically come with a 10 year warranty when registered by the end user within a certain timeframe. while older units may have been out of warranty for years, it's best to consult with your heating or cooling professional to find out exactly what your warranty entails. NGM offers a 1 year installation warranty* in addition to the first year of maintenance and 10 year manufacturer warranty on new installations.
Q: How often should I change my filters?
A: Usually once a month but if you have pets or are prone to allergies than possibly more frequently.
Q: Is maintenance really that important?
Yes it is very important, having your system routinely maintained by a trained HVAC professional not only keeps your equipment running like it should which keeps you comfortable, in many cases the manufacturer recommends getting your unit serviced at least once a year. (In some cases manufacturers have not honored warranty claims due to the condition of a unit and lack of maintenance preformed).
